The Department of Ophthalmology is looking for a highly motivated Associate Research Scientist to join the research division. There are 14 laboratories and more than 50 investigators devoted to the study of basic and clinical problems in vision, ophthalmology, and eye disease. Investigations encompass the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, retina, radiation biology, physiology, pharmacology, optics, and AI.
Responsibilities Include:
* Responsible for working on image processing and developing artificial intelligence that will recognize retinal pathologies
* Creating methods for machine learning that can identify, localize and quantify pathological features in macular and retinal pathologies.
* Responsible for establishing convolutional neural networks that mimic the path of the human brain for object recognition through the learning of the pathological features from training sets.
* Expected to assist with any other activities related to the research project.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Candidates should have completed a PhD in biology/ophthalmology/biomedical engineering or related field, and at least 3- 5 years of related experience
* Have demonstrated experience with data science techniques
* Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
* Ability to use independent judgment.
* Evidence of the ability to conduct and publish high quality research is required.
* Past experience mentoring PhD students and other research assistants
* Showing leadership skills and the ability to create milestones/set goals for others is also highly recommended.
