  Job ID359426 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyAcademic Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code9402 Employee ClassInstr Fac/TC and Coord Cmp About the Job Job Title: Associate Professor with tenure (Autonomic Neuromodulation) Department: Department of Surgery Position Summary: The Department of Surgery at the University of Minnesota is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual for the position of Associate Professor with expertise in basic research in autonomic neuromodulation for treatment of cardiorenal diseases. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in a relevant field and will contribute to the department's commitment to excellence in research, education, and patient care. Responsibilities: Research: The candidate will be expected to conduct cutting-edge basic research in the field of autonomic neuromodulation with a focus on neural mechanisms of cardiovascular and kidney diseases. The candidate will develop and lead an independent research program that aligns with the Minnesota Consortium for Autonomic Neuromodulation (MCAN) and Departmental strategic goals; publish research findings in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals; and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to advance the development of novel autonomic neuromodulation therapies in surgery. Teaching: The candidate will be expected to contribute to the education and training of residents, and fellows with potential for mentorship of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in research projects. Clinical Collaboration: The candidate will be expected to collaborate with clinical colleagues to integrate autonomic neuromodulation therapies into patient care; and stay abreast of the latest advancements in autonomic neuromodulation and ensure the translation of research findings into clinical applications. Grant Acquisition: The candidate will be expected to have successfully obtained extramural funding from national funding agencies (e.g., National Institutes of Health) in the role of Principal Investigator and continue to seek extramural funding to support research activities by preparing and submitting grant applications to relevant funding agencies. Service: The candidate will be expected to participate in departmental and institutional committees and activities; and contribute to the academic community through involvement in professional societies and conferences. Qualifications Qualifications: Education and Training: * PhD and a minimum of 3 years of post-doctoral training in a relevant field (e.g., physiology, neuroscience). Research Expertise: * Strong background in cardiorenal physiology and autonomic neuroscience. Individuals with expertise in conducting chronic physiological studies in rodent models of cardiorenal disease, as well as experience in both in vivo and in vitro electrophysiological methods to study renal sensory nerves, are highly desirable. * Proven record of impactful research demonstrated by publications in reputable journals and funding from national agencies.
