Associate or Sr Associate, Discovery Protein Science (12-month contract)

Amgen’s Therapeutic Discovery organization is seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative Associate or Senior Associate to join the Discovery Protein Science group at our Amgen British Columbia site. This group is responsible for production of antibodies and other proteins to support early-stage discovery of small and large molecule therapeutics and cutting-edge novel modalities. We have an opening for a candidate with broad experience in recombinant protein production (Expression, Purification and/or Analytics). A well-suited applicant will have broad laboratory training, deep scientific curiosity, and a positive approach to working in a team-based research environment. This individual will also have a track record of creative problem-solving and enthusiasm for tackling difficult research challenges.
Responsibilities
Work within the Discovery Protein Science team to deliver high quality proteins to support the early drug discovery pipeline.
Express a variety of protein classes, including soluble proteins, antibodies, and antibody fusions in mammalian cell hosts using transient and stable expression methods. Determine protein expression levels using SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, HPLC and Octet.
Proficiency in a range of protein purification techniques, including Affinity, Ion-Exchange, and Size Exclusion Chromatography. Hands on experience with automated FPLC instrumentation (e.g., AKTA) and/or magnetic bead purification.
Conduct analytical assays to characterize purified proteins. Analytical techniques including UV-VIS spectroscopy, Western Blot, CE-SDS, DLS, DFS, analytical chromatography and mass spectrometry.
Analyze and interpret scientific data, document experiments in lab notebooks and multi-task with focus on detail in a fast-paced environment.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Chemistry, Immunology or a related discipline and 2 years of scientific laboratory experience.Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in a related scientific discipline.
Experience with antibody discovery technologies, or lab automation/robotics.
Experience in an industrial setting.
Expertise in either Expression or Purification.
Desire to be a team player in a dynamic, cross-functional environment.
Leverage strong communication skills in planning and coordinating experiments and sample hand-offs with team members and partner functions.

The annual base salary range for this opportunity in Canada is 63,000 CAD – 119,000 CAD.
