About Associate Director of Student Conduct and Case Management

  Job Type: Officer of AdministrationRegular/Temporary: RegularHours Per Week: 35Salary Range: $80,000 - $85,000The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

  Position Summary

  Reporting to the Director of Student Conduct the Associate Director of Student Conduct and Case Management is responsible for supporting students in maintaining a safe, honest, and responsible campus community by responding to all reports of academic and non-academic misconduct. The Associate Director, along with other members of Student Conduct and Community Standards, conducts Dean's Discipline Hearings in a manner that holds students accountable and supports learning and development. The Associate Director regularly communicates and collaborates with staff members in Residential Life, Academic Affairs, Counseling and Psychological Services, Columbia University Athletics, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Parent and Family Programs and the Center for Student Advising. In addition to hearing cases, the incumbent is responsible for special projects or assignments, including Title IX investigations, committee involvement, trainings, faculty outreach, etc. The Associate Director will also be trained on Title IX compliance and investigation and will partner with investigators and case managers within the Student Conduct office as needed.

  Responsibilities

  Adjudicate cases. Respond to allegations of academic and behavioral misconduct through the Dean's Discipline process, which emphasizes accountability and education. This includes the review of reports received, any necessary investigative measures, leading disciplinary hearings, documentation, and, as necessary, implementation of sanctions ranging from disciplinary warning through expulsion from the University. Case dependent, the Associate Director may also communicate regarding case outcomes to family, faculty, and other University staff, including the Dean of a student's college.Collaboration and communication. Collaborate with other departments throughout the university, including Residential Programs, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Center for Student Advising, Columbia Athletics, and Community Development to address student conduct issues within the undergraduate community. This includes the annual selection and training of the Greek Judicial Board, review and assessment of policies, and serving on cross-functional teams to address trends or concerns within student conduct. Create, update and maintain a list of current athletes with existing or pending disciplinary action for the academic year. This includes a weekly review of reports and case updates, which then get communicated regularly with Columbia Athletics. Statistics and report management. Assist the Executive Director, Student Conduct and Community Standards in developing various reports regarding case statistics and information; policy review, development and implementation; educating campus constituents on student discipline and judicial issues; annual statistics in compliance with the Clery Act. Education and program development. Through professional organization involvement and independent research, the Associate Director is responsible for staying current on trends and issues related to the field of student conduct. The Associate Director is responsible for applying or integrating new theories and practices to related services and programs including New Student Orientation, student leadership training, Community Development or Academic Affairs initiatives, etc. Training. Provide information and training to administrators, student groups, and student leaders on topics including, but not limited to: Dean's Discipline, academic integrity, confrontation, incident reporting and documentation, policies and sanctioning. Other duties as assigned As a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Council of Ivy Group Presidents (Ivy League), it is imperative that members of the Columbia University community, in all matters related to the intercollegiate athletics program, exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with regard to adherence to NCAA, Conference, University, and Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education rules and regulations.

  Minimum Qualifications

  A Bachelor's degree required and a minimum of four years of related experience in the areas of judicial affairs, residence life and/or alcohol and other drug education. Advanced degree preferred in Higher Education, Student Personnel Administration, Counseling, Law or related field.Must demonstrate dedication to the principles and values of the field of Student Judicial Affairs and have an understanding of FERPA, Clery and other laws pertaining to student judicial affairs.Must be comfortable working in a dynamic, urban, fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.Excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to exercise superior judgment and discretion are required.Proven ability to handle multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of professionalism and attention to detail must be shown.
