  Position SummaryThe Michigan State University College of Human Medicine's Office of Academic Affairs invites applications for the Associate Dean for Community Academic Programs (ADCAP). The college was one of the first community based medical schools in the nation and conducts its clinical training for third and fourth-year students in the Late Clinical Experience (LCE) throughout the state in eight communities -- Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Midland, Southeast Michigan, Traverse City, and the Upper Peninsula - fulfilling its mission of serving the people of Michigan.

  The Associate Dean for Community Academic Programs has responsibility for optimizing the Shared Discovery Curriculum (SDC) LCE and works closely with the Community Assistant Dean offices in each community to ensure appropriate resource availability, comparability between communities and excellent communication to enable optimal delivery of the curriculum and other student services. The associate dean will collaborate closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (SADAA), Community Assistant Deans (CAD), and Academic Affairs leadership.

  The Associate Dean for Community Academic Programs is a key member of the Academic Affairs leadership team and is expected to collaborate with all units. For example, this role will collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Accreditation and Program Evaluation to assist in leading the comprehensive, integrated and continuous quality improvement of the curriculum and related elements. The role will also collaborate with the Director of the Office of Medical Education Research and Development on the collection and analysis of data to assist with assessment and improvement of the medical program. 

  This position is 0.4 FTE and the academic department and rank will be determined based upon qualifications and experience.

  The Associate Dean for Community Academic Programs (ADCAP) will:

  Meet regularly with LCE Director, CADs, and other community team members from all CHM campuses to ensure curriculum delivery is comparable and that designated processes and procedures are effective in maximizing experiences for faculty and studentsTravel at least twice yearly to each community to meet with clerkship directors, students, and campus administration to deliver news, problem-solve, and gather information about successes and areas for development in our programsLiaison with community partners to optimize student opportunities and experiences and to collaborate on clinical placement strategiesLead the development and administration of new campuses and campuses in transitionPartner with community campuses to support and promote faculty recruitment and retentionProvide leadership, expertise, and stakeholder support to resolve challenges and maximize opportunities inherent to a community-based medical school through engagement with appropriate governance and operational committees including Curriculum Committee, Academic Affairs meetings, Community Assistant Dean meetings, Physicianship Committee, academic review, college events and other ad hoc meetings as requiredCollaborate with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education to monitor curricular endpoint competencies, learning objectives, teaching modalities, and their integration with assessment modalities for all curricular units.Collaborate with department chairs and CADs to resolve issues on community faculty rank and promotionPerform fact-finding in instances of potential critical deficiencies in professionalismProvide oversight to certificate directors as needed to optimize quality and discuss changes in the program and/or the impact of curricular changes on the programEqual Employment Opportunity StatementAll
