We are seeking a dynamic and visionary leader who, in collaboration with the highly engaged faculty, helps guide the Performing Arts towards an integrated curriculum that is both innovative and sustainable. This position will help launch the new interdisciplinary BFA in Performing Arts and increase matriculating majors within the division.
The Performing Arts Division provides collaborative, rigorous, and contemporary programs across Music, Theatre, Dance, and Performance Design and Technology. For makers and performers, the Performing Arts Division fosters discovery, ideas, and creativity through innovative learning. Students co-create [live] art. As practitioners, researchers, and scholars, faculty members foster depth of discovery and life-long learning. Each program is designed to be inclusive of all stages of skill, ability, and experience, while facilitating student mastery at all levels.
This position is responsible for recruiting for the new major and providing academic and operational leadership for students, staff, and faculty in the Performing Arts Division. The Associate Dean will participate in establishing a vision for the academic experience that is in alignment with the overall goals of the university. This will include ensuring relevant curriculum, seasonal performance offerings, and opportunities that evolve to remain current.
The ideal candidate will have had a substantial background in a discipline of the performing arts and be a fiery advocate for the Division. Qualities we seek in a leader include: transparency, pragmatism, someone who approaches leadership with positive energy, fosters collaboration, and is open-minded. The salary range for this position is $85,000-$100,000.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Serve as a strategic thought partner for the Dean
Represent the Dean when called upon in a variety of settings both within and outside of the university community
Advance initiatives in alignment with school and university priorities
Recruitment:
Support and participate in all Admissions recruitment efforts & events and. coordinate faculty/staff to aid in these efforts when appropriate
Create recruitment opportunities for the Division to ensure balanced enrollment
Meet with prospective students when needed and oversee interviews for potential scholarships
Assist with recruitment efforts by providing up-to-date material such as student work, descriptive copy, and testimonials concerning the Division for web and print
Plan, coordinate, and participate in on and off campus recruitment events including, but not limited to, conferences, high school visits, workshops, and other public events in collaboration with the Admissions Events Coordinator and the Arts Admissions Counselor
Provide academic leadership and sit on/attend relevant committees within the Division and across the University; organize and share in leading meetings of the faculty and staff
Faculty and Staff Oversight:
Work alongside Department Coordinators and the Dean in hiring full- and parttime faculty and staff
Supervise and mentor faculty and staff, maintain strong and effective relationships and communication and resolving issues
Support the promotion & tenure process
Curriculum:
Maintain and supervise adherence to curriculum standards. Oversee the review of all course syllabi alongside Department Coordinators. Ensure consistency across departments
Work with faculty on course development, assessment, and improvement to maintain academic outcomes and Division relevance with industry standards and practices
Work with Department Coordinators, Program Directors, and Deans across the University to provide curricular and interdisciplinary paths for students
Oversee the creation of course schedules
Lead faculty in program and course assessment and improvement, including but not limited to curriculum mapping and annual assessment reports
Participate in curricular and accreditation studies and reviews. Co-author responses, self-studies, and other necessary materials
Student Engagement:
Organize and participate in student advising and mentoring. Oversee faculty advisors and coordinate activities with the Center for Advising
Oversee and assist in the review and processing of upper-level transfer credit evaluations
Budget & Finance:
Develop annual budgets and prepare all fiscal year budget materials for the Dean's review and approval
Collaborate with facilities and the division to ensure the upkeep of facilities and equipment
Manage and oversee Division-wide expenditures for materials and supplies, scholarships, programming, awards, and other designated activities
Approve staff schedules
Approve and manage additional stipends and faculty travel reimbursements
Teaching:
Teach 2 courses annually in area of expertise dependent on Division needs as approved by the dean
Fundraising & Alumni Relations:
Support/participate in university development efforts
Work with the Dean, University Advancement, and the Office of Sponsored Programs on corporate or foundation grants
Foster mentorship relationships between alumni and students
Support community outreach and engagement initiatives

Requirements:
An advanced degree related to one of the departments in the Performing Arts Division (Dance, Theatre, Music, Performance Design & Technology)
Rank of Associate Professor (or equivalent experience)
A demonstrated capacity for managing resources and personnel

An advocate in the field with a demonstrated record of excellence and a broad range of professional accomplishments
Strong connections to performing arts education as evidenced through conference presentations, invited lectures/workshops, and professional networks
