Hours/FLSA : Full Time/Exempt
Schedule : Monday-Friday 9AM - 5PM, occasional evening hours and weekends for information sessions, Pre Treks, Trek and travel. Compensatory time and flex time policies exist to help create a work/life balance.
Location : Remote
Travel: Up to 50% (both in the US to Bronx, Boston, and Bridgeport and to Guatemala and Nicaragua
Salary Range : $70,000 - $75,000
Overview of the Role:
Reporting to the Trek Director, the Assistant Trek Director, Volunteer Management will lead a team of specialists to prepare both donors and buildOn U.S. students for their Trek experience. The Assistant Trek Director, Volunteer Management will supervise full-time Trek Specialists who will prepare buildOn Trek participants to travel on Trek. Additionally, the Assistant Trek Director, Volunteer Management will work closely with the Development Team and buildOn US staff to ensure strong processes are in place to provide outstanding Trek preparation for all Trek volunteers (buildOn U.S, Community teams, and Partners)

A history of service, donor stewardship, and youth development experience are crucial. The candidate must be highly organized, a creative problem-solver, possesses strong interpersonal skills, and is self-motivated. Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate is an international service professional with extensive experience living, traveling, and leading trips in the developing world as well as extensive experience working with teenagers. A history of service, donor stewardship, and youth development experience are crucial. The candidate must be highly organized, a creative problem-solver, possesses strong interpersonal skills, and is self-motivated. They must have a strong command of the Spanish language and experience working directly with youth and practicing behavior management. Consistent with buildOn’s core values and mission statement, he or she must have a passion and understanding of buildOn’s program focus.
The Assistant Trek Director has experience supervising a small team and working collaboratively across departments, geographies and cultures.
Key Responsibilities:
Support to Trek Participants
Oversee preparation of all buildOn US Trek participants in New York, Connecticut, Boston, Oakland, Detroit and Chicago
Support and train the Trek Specialist to lead recruitment , interviews, and selection
Support and train the Trek Specialist to lead Information Sessions and Pre Trek Workshops
Oversee visa and passport processes and troubleshoot challenges
Act as the escalation point for Trek participants and their families in their preparation for travel
Oversee p repar ation of buildOn Partners to participate in the Trek experience
Support and train Trek Specialists to lead information sessions
Support Trek Specialists to own the Trek paperwork process for any potential legal or medical concerns and follow-up as necessary
Act as the escalation point for complex visa and passport processes and troubleshoot challenges for volunteers
Cultivate , maintain and support relationships with buildOn donors
Provide additional support to Trek participants in their preparation for travel
Management
Hire, onboard , and manage Trek Specialists
Provide on-call support to Trek Director and Trek Leaders in the field (in rotation with other Trek Team members)
Managing an annual budget for Pre-Trek preparation.
Program Development
Work closely with Trek Director , buildOn US Program Directors and Development Team to enhance buildOn Trek programming through curriculum development, providing feedback on the establishment of protocols, and collecting and disseminating best practices in regards to participant pr eparations.
Build upon the existing buildOn Trek methodology to develop and maintain practical and effective systems and processes for all Trek participant preparation.
Train new and existing staff on the processes needed to execute best in class Trek programming.
Work closely with the Development department to create life-long buildOn supporters through Pre-Trek guidance and Post-Trek support.
Maintain and support training systems for all buildOn Trek support staff.
Key Requirements:

Requires 4-year degree & a minimum of 2 years' related experience
Experience living and working in the developing world (min. 1 year)
Extensive experience leading service projects or as a volunteer
Demonstrated ability to provide high-level support to donors
Knowledge and experience working with urban youth
Demonstrated ability to balance the demands of rigorous methodology with the unique needs of each stakeholder
Strong interpersonal skills with the capacity for building relationships with all types of stakeholders, from corporate CEOs, to college students, to urban high school youth
Demonstrated leadership and organizational ability to balance and coordinate multiple projects, people, and assignments simultaneously
Track record of taking initiative and requiring minimal supervision while completing complex assignments
Proven record of maintaining timely and detailed records and reports
Highly results oriented & independent work style
Ability to handle cross-cultural communication sensitively, and to communicate clearly, effectively and persuasively both verbally and written
Sound judgment/decision-making and ability to remain calm in crisis situations and to think critically under pressure
Working knowledge of Salesforce
Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification, or greater
