The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Hobart is looking for a highly experienced and passionate Assistant Restaurant Manager / Sommelier (Full time) to join our team and lead the day-to-day aspects of our signature restaurant operations, maintaining and exceeding service and cleanliness standards. You will undertake a variety of responsibilities and duties whilst delivering a high-quality customer experience. During busy periods you will assist food and beverage attendants on the floor.
Your Team
You will work in our dynamic Food and Beverage department and the hotel's signature restaurant which celebrates renowned Tasmanian Chef Massimo Mele's heritage and gives traditional Italian cuisine a local twist that responds to the seasons. The restaurant is ideally located on Salamanca Place and close to the waterfront and is the heart of Hobart's new Parliament Square, complimenting Tasmania's newest luxury hotel, The Tasman, with a wine selection that celebrates provenance.
Managing Day-to-Day operations
Manages and oversee all day-to-day operations. Understands associate's positions well enough to perform duties as required
Manages associates and solicits feedback to identify and pro-actively addresses concerns
Identifies the development needs of others and coaches, mentors, or otherwise helps associates
Review resourcing levels to ensure that guest service, operational needs and financial objectives are met
Contribute to the development and implementation of The Tasman’s strategies for the department.
Create an environment for associates that is aligned with The Tasman’s culture, modelling professional behaviours standard.
Lead, influence, and encourage others; advocate sound financial/business decision making; demonstrates honesty and integrity
Ensure compliance with all hotel policies, food and beverage policies, standards and procedures
Help to Control costs and minimize waste and initiate corrective actions
Strategy work and help to oversees the financial aspects of the department
Perform other appropriate duties as assigned by the Director of Food and Beverage
Ensure exceptional customer service levels are consistently achieved and anticipate customer needs
Helps to empower associates to provide excellent customer service
Manages service delivery in outlets to ensure seamless service from point of entry to departure
Handles customer problems/concerns
Incorporates guest satisfaction as a component of departmental meetings
About You
Qualifications in Business or Hospitality Management and/or equivalent 2+ years’ experience in a similar assistant leadership position working in a premium venue.
You will have experience working as a Sommelier in similar restaurants or hotels
Genuine interest and knowledge of food and beverage products sustainable with wine knowledge
Ability to gauge customers’ preferences, delivering a unique drinking experience
Knowledge of local and international wines, spirits, and beers
Wine and Spirit Education Trust or Court of Master Sommeliers certificate (desirable)
Valid Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate (RSA -Tasmania)
High energy, agile and proven record driving results
Strong leader with proven success building effective teams and empowering people to reach their full potential
Impeccable attention to detail, organisational skills and commercial acumen
Flexible, reliable and punctual with the ability to work late nights and on weekends
Passion for the industry and strong customer focus and proven ability to deliver personalised and customer-centric solutions
Strong commercial acumen and proven ability managing budgets and P&L
A good understanding of employment and work, health and safety practices
Able to demonstrate the capacity to perform the inherent requirements of the role
