  School/College/Division Description

  The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee College of Health Professions & Sciences (https://uwm.edu/health-professions-sciences/) offers a wide array of health-related academic programs in biomedical sciences, global health, health care administration, nursing, the rehabilitation sciences, and sustainable peacebuilding serving 2300+ students. The faculty and staff in these areas are training our graduates for high-demand careers.   The School of Rehabilitation Sciences & Technology (RS&T) (https://uwm.edu/rehabilitation-sciences-technology/) is situated within the College of Health Professions & Sciences, the largest such academic unit in the state. The School offers programs in Physical Therapy, Athletic Training, Communication Sciences & Disorders, Occupational Therapy, Sciences and Rehabilitation, and Therapeutic Recreation. The Department has a strong focus on Interprofessional education, research excellence and technology. Within UWM , the School collaborates with the School of Nursing, the School of Biomedical Sciences & Health Care Administration, the Zilber College of Public Health, and the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare for a UWM Partners in Health campus initiative to be a regional healthcare leader in education, research, and service.

  DPT Program

  The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program ( DPT ) is actively committed to serving its neighbors and has strong community partnerships throughout the region. Our students work with our community partners starting in the second week of the program. UWM has the only DPT program at a public institution in southeastern Wisconsin, ensuring a PT education is available to all. The UWM DPT program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education ( CAPTE ).   The City of Milwaukee is a regional center for medical services and research, home to several hospitals as well as the Medical College of Wisconsin, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, and the Zablocki Veterans Administration Medical Center. UWM maintains strong connections with community partners in healthcare research through the Clinical-Translational Sciences Institute ( CTSI ), which provides opportunities for interdisciplinary and inter-agency collaboration.

  Job Summary

  We are seeking an academic professional for the DPT Program who is committed to excellence in research and scholarship and in high-quality education. The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate courses in the Doctor of Physical Therapy ( DPT ) program and/or undergraduate courses in the RS&T program; mentor and advise graduate students; develop and/or expand their own research program; engage in university and professional service; and maintain liaisons with academic colleagues, as well as with community partners and nonacademic agencies.

  Minimum Qualifications

  Current Physical Therapy License or eligible for State of Wisconsin Physical Therapy Licensure.

  Academic doctorate (e.g. PhD, EdD, DSc, DHSc) from an accredited institution in physical therapy or health-related field. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate ( ABD or equivalent) may be considered; however, for appointment, the doctorate must be completed by time of hire.

  At least 3 years of current experience as a licensed practicing Physical Therapist.

  Preferred Qualifications

  American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties ( ABPTS ) certification.

  Demonstrated experiences in advancing the academic success of students, particularly those who have been underrepresented in higher education, through innovative and inclusive classroom practice and pedagogy.

  Participation (or involvement) in related professional organizations.

  Innovative, impactful, and fundable research agenda.

  Target Salary Range Final salary offers contingent upon skills, knowledge, and abilities as they relate to the position. There is also a negotiable start-up funds amount.
