PostedOctober 17, 2022The Department of Religious Studies at Case Western Reserve University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor with a focus on Asian religions, beginning July 2023. The successful candidate will also hold the Severance Professorship in the History of Religion. A PhD in Religious Studies or relevant area is required.The department welcomes all approaches within the field of religious studies and encourages candidates whose research focuses on East and Southeast Asia. The standard teaching load is two courses per semester. Duties include teaching undergraduate courses in the candidate's areas of expertise, teaching introductory and advanced courses on theory and method in religious studies, as well as contributing to the curriculum and service needs of the Department of Religious Studies and the College of Arts and Sciences.Ample research support and opportunities for collaborative and interdisciplinary research exist in the department and the university, and participation in these endeavors is encouraged, including collaborating with faculty, departments, and programs in related disciplines within the College of Arts and Sciences, e.g., Art History, Asian Studies, Chinese Studies, Ethnic Studies, History, International Studies, and Women's and Gender Studies. The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in the many interdisciplinary opportunities within the College of Arts and Sciences, including the Baker Nord Center for the Humanities.Case Western Reserve University is part of University Circle, which has one of the nation's largest concentrations of educational, cultural, medical, and performing arts organizations.
