Position
Western Colorado University invites applications for a tenure-track full timefaculty position in chemistry in the area of biochemistry. Teachingresponsibilities would include lecture and laboratory courses in biochemistry,general chemistry, and other introductory courses in support of the degreeprograms in chemistry. Other courses could be included in the teaching loadbased on need and qualifications. The successful candidate will teach 24semester credits per academic year. Strong commitment to effective teaching,undergraduate research, inclusive practices, advising, service andprofessional development is expected.
The chemistry program at Western has over 40 students; three additionalfull-time faculty members; and a stockroom/laboratory coordinator. Thechemistry program is housed in the Department of Natural and EnvironmentalSciences whose vision is that "Science is for everyone. Qualifications
A PhD. with an emphasis in biochemistry is required; ABD also considered forappointment. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to undergraduateeducation, excellence in teaching, and establishing an inclusive learningenvironment that acknowledges the educational needs of a diverse studentpopulation. Candidates must also be able to use technology in instructionaldelivery, including ability to teach online and hybrid courses. A demonstratedcommitment to undergraduate research is also expected. Collegiality andprofessional flexibility are characteristic of the department and would besought in the successful candidate.
Salary/Benefits
$58,000-$62,000 annualized salary. Western offers an excellent benefitspackage including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan,dental insurance, retirement plan, life insurance, and other insuranceoptions. After one year of employment, Western provides free tuition fordependents enrolled full time in undergraduate programs for up to four years.
