  Job Description

  Assistant Professor and Extension Specialists are expected to support the Extension network by working with County Extension Agents in scheduling, planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs; conducting Extension personnel training and mentoring these personnel as appropriate; and developing resources and tools for use by both Extension Agents and stakeholders. For the research appointment, the incumbent will develop and maintain a nationally and internationally recognized research program who will collaborate closely with other members located at centers and other units within Texas A&M AgriLife to lead and participate in multi-disciplinary projects.

  Responsibilities:

  Serves as a subject matter expert on the US Dietary Guidelines, USDA Federal Nutrition Assistance Programs, and the Nutritional State of the Science in areas of interest to the Texas public.

  Develops, delivers, teaches, implements, modifies, evaluates, and manages nutrition related programs, services, curricula, products, and/or processes.

  Works collaboratively with Extension Agents, Regional Program Leaders, and faculty from diverse subject matter disciplines.

  Provides health and nutrition expertise, support, and training to Extension Agents and volunteers through face-to-face and/or online professional development sessions.

  Participates in program planning and development processes at the multi-county, district, or regional level and conveys insights to state leadership.

  Develops partnerships and works collaboratively with state and federal agencies, other universities, industry, and other organizations.

  Creates and maintains an inventory of the evidence-based nutrition education support systems in Texas. Works with these support systems to develop a statewide network of nutrition education resources for the public.

  Secures external funding as the PI or Co-PI to support research, Extension, and outreach activities.

  Presents research and Extension findings at national conferences.

  Serves as an advisor to graduate students and secures external funding to support graduate assistantships.

  Prepares press releases and communicates with media outlets (newspaper, radio, television) as requested.

  Serves on departmental/unit, Extension and AgriLife committees, and professional organizations as appropriate.

  Maintains an independent research program that receives competitive internal and external funding.

  Trains and mentors the current and next-generation scientists, including students and Postdocs

  Publishes in high-impact peer-reviewed journals

  Other duties as required

  Required Education and Experience:

  Doctoral degree in community/applied nutrition, public health, public policy, health psychology, community psychology, or a related field.

  At least one degree in nutrition.

  Experience in area of specialization

  Preferred Experience:

  Conducting applied research in nutrition—in areas such as nutrition education programming implementation science and outcomes research, nutrition epidemiology, nutrition policy analysis, predictors of diet quality, food environment assessment, etc.

  Developing and/or utilizing evidence-based programs aimed at addressing nutrition

  issues.

  Developing peer-reviewed publications and community-based informational products.

  Required Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  Ability to use various technologies social media, online learning, etc.) to facilitate communication of food and nutrition information to the public and to professionals.

  Ability to seek and/or obtain external funding.

  Ability to develop, implement and evaluate nutrition-related programs.

  Ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals.

  Ability to translate complex nutrition research into educational materials for

  the public.

  Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.

  Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary initiatives.

  Ability to analyze data.

  Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.

  Preferred Skills and Abilities:
