General Description:The Assistant Health and Safety Coordinator will assist the Health and Safety Coordinator inthe delivery of services to component school districts and other BOCES, school districts, and municipalities with which the BOCES may contract.Major Duties and Responsibilities:Monitor the schools energy usage.Develop and implement practices and procedures designed to reduce energy consumption and or improve efficiency of usage. Collaborate with Health and Safety Coordinator and the Assistant Superintendent for Businessin preparing annual budgets associated with energy conservation programs.Will research renewable green energy technologies and determine their feasibility and cost effectiveness.
Assist in the development and maintenance of Emergency Management Plans.Provide guidance on OSHA, EPA, DOH, DEC, DOT, and Department of Labor regulations.Attend training workshops, make presentations, and write reports as directed by the Health and Safety Coordinator, Assistant Superintendent for Business, and DistrictSuperintendent of the Jefferson- Lewis BOCES.Meet with local school personnel and BOCES administrators as necessary on state andfederal regulatory issues.Assists schools with NYS Code ComplianceRelationships:The Assistant Health and Safety Coordinator will report to the Health & Safety Coordinatorand the Director of Finance at the Jefferson-Lewis BOCES.Qualifications:Minimum qualifications: Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered four year college with a bachelors degree in environmental, chemical, or health related field;OR Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college with an associatesdegree in environmental, chemical, or health related field and two years of experience in occupational safety, environmental technology or related field. Civil Service test required for permanent appointment.Ability to use word processing, spread sheet and database computer programs is desirable. Asbestos and code enforcement certifications a plus.The individual should be able to work well with school district administrators, teachers and support staff.
