The Assistant Director has essential functions related to staff supervision and leadership, student learning and engagement, student behavior and incident response, training and ongoing development, administrative and project management tasks, and other general responsibilities that support UHRL and DoSA, and their shared commitment to student success.The Assistant Director serves as the lead staff member for all departmental student engagement and academic initiatives, including the Residential Curriculum, Living Learning Communities (LLC), faculty engagement, and academic support services for the residential life program. The Assistant Director provides indirect supervision, mentoring, and development to the full-time professional staff, as well as student staff and student leaders within the department. Additionally, the Assistant Director manages several administrative and operational functions for the department, including, but not limited to, the coordination of LLC participant recruitment and room assignments, support for academic and campus collaborators serving as LLC Program Administrators, and oversight of the Peer Mentor portions of Student Staff Selection and Training. The Assistant Director is also responsible for the development and implementation of student engagement opportunities, including, but not limited to, oversight of the Student Staff Seminar, Sustainability initiatives, and the Residence Hall Association. The position requires frequent and meaningful interaction with residential students, parents/families, faculty, administrators, and community partners. Serves in an on-call capacity and responds to student behavior issues as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.The Assistant Director position is a full-time, 12-month, live-off appointment.Required Education & Experience:Master's degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field.Four (4) year's progressive post-Master's professional experience in residential life and/or student conduct.Experience in building collaborative partnerships with faculty, administrators, students, parents/families, and community partners.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Required Skills & Abilities:Exhibited work with diverse populations and developing inclusive communities and staff teams.Understanding of a residential curriculum focused on facilitating student learning in a residence hall community.Demonstrated supervision, development, mentoring, and motivation of a diverse student staff team and ability to articulate these concepts as transferable to professional staff teams.Knowledge of fiscal management competencies and demonstrated experience in fiscal management.Ability to manage multiple collaborative projects and systems in a fast-paced environment.Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently and efficiently.Strong interpersonal, leadership, oral, and written communication skills.Must live within one-hour of campus for on-call responsibilities and be able to occasionally work evenings and weekends.Preferred:Professional experience as live-in staff member.Experience providing and facilitating training to student and professional staff.Demonstrated incident response and crisis management skills, including problem-solving and critical thinking.Experience advising student organizations or providing leadership development opportunities to student leaders.Connection or work with academic initiatives, such as Living Learning Communities or academic courses.Development of curriculum and or course design and implementation.This position requires a background check.This position requires Child Abuse Certifications prior to the commencement of service.This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.Temple University is committed to a policy of equal opportunity for all in every aspect of its operations, including employment, service, and educational programs.
