　　Job Description Summary

　　The Assistant Director of Student Leadership and Involvement assists the office in providing strong educational, social, and leadership development-oriented, co-curricular experiences that enhance student learning and campus life at Michigan Technological University. Reporting to the Director of Student Leadership and Involvement, the Assistant Director is the primary individual to plan, execute, and evaluate leadership development programs and community service initiatives. This individual also oversees risk management for student organizations, supervises student office staff, and advises Undergraduate Student Government. The Assistant Director also works collaboratively within the SLI office to design and implement engaging programs and activities promoting student life, building leadership capacity, and supporting student success amongst a vibrant, inclusive student body.

　　Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

　　Co-advise the Undergraduate Student Government including assistance and oversight of leadership development, elections, programming, and transitions.

　　Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate approved and assigned student employees.

　　Advise student organizations on risk mitigation in order to reduce the level of individual, organizational, and institutional risk and liability.

　　Engage in policy and procedure development in collaboration with others in the department, division, and institution that prioritizes student success and well-being. 

　　Coordinate the leadership pathway program for students in conjunction with other Student Affairs Departments.

　　Direct the implementation of the LeaderShape Institute annually.

　　Cultivate innovative leadership development opportunities for students and student organizations, including the HuskyLEAD leadership series, GRIT leadership workshop, and LeaderShape's Catalyst program.

　　Coordinate the annual Student Leadership Awards.

　　Administer, maintain, and train users on the community service opportunities database and community organization information listing.

　　Work to develop and promote service opportunities to the campus community, including but not limited to coordinating: Make a Difference Day, Service Saturdays, and Alternative Spring Break (Service) Trips.

　　Ensure continued status as a certifying organization for the President's Volunteer Service Award and annually certify qualifying students.

　　Provide consultation and assistance to other Student Affairs departments and student organizations regarding leadership development and community service opportunities.

　　Seek opportunities to raise funds for office programming from campus departments, alumni, and corporate sponsors.

　　Plan and coordinate the annual Homecoming tradition including the team competition, court selection, and other spirit initiatives.
