Job Description Summary
The Appeals Coordinator will work to ensure timely and accuratedisposition on accounts receivables for Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. TheAppeals Coordinator will perform functions that assist in reducing theopen receivables, including complex billing, collections, and appeals,ensuring compliance with insurance payers, Shirley Ryan AbilityLabpolicies and good customer service to our patients.

Job Description
Appeals Coordinator
Contacts payors via phone and leverages payor websites to gatherinformation regarding outstanding payments on claims until accountis resolvedCommunicates with payors to resolve all pending and denied claims,requiring appealsReview and analyze denial responses to determine appropriate nextsteps to resolveWhere a full appeal is necessary, receive electronic transfers ofthe account from the Reimbursement Coordinators or other team memberfor review and action to complete the appeals processEnsure all work is documented within the Cerner system and using theappropriate assigned work queuesIn collaboration with the clinical departments, patient access,medical records, and other applicable departments to gather andcollate all documentation to adequately support the appeal to thepayorDocuments and submits all appeals to the payor who denied the claimCompliant with HIPAA and other State and Federal regulationsFollow and adhere to all regulations and guidelines set by stateprograms and other commercial payorsPerform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interestof Shirley Ryan AbilityLabReporting Relationships
Reports directly to the Director of Payor RelationsKnowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
Educational level appropriate with what is typically gained throughthe acquisition of a High School Diploma.Minimum 3 year of experience with hospital billing and/or collectingfrom health insurance carriersKnowledge of governmental billing regulations preferredPrevious experience with insurance collections and follow-up inhealthcare settingPrevious experience investigating and formulating a documentedresponse to applicable payorFamiliar with UB-04 and HCFA 1500 billing regulationsAbility to build relationships with insurance carriers andrepresentativesAbility to build relationships with other upstream departmentswithin Shirley Ryan AbilityLabUnderstand business implications of decisionsMaintain a l production standards as outlined for assigned workAbility to keep up to date with insurance billing regulation changesas assignedAbility to quickly learn to bill specific financial classes/Payorsas assigned as assignedStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to perform basic mathematical functionsWorking Conditions
