  AFTERSCHOOL ASSISTANT TEACHER

  HFH is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and creative Afterschool Assistant Teacher for our afterschool program in Soundview, Bronx. This is an excellent position for a college student or professional interested in working with K-12-aged students outside of the traditional classroom setting. Our program classrooms are part of a new facility for families and children experiencing homelessness. The Lead Teacher assists with the planning, development, and delivery of the afterschool program

  ABOUT HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS, INC.

  Homes for the Homeless, Inc. (HFH) is a non-profit social services organization operating family shelters throughout NYC that serve as a hub of opportunity for families residing in the shelter and those in the neighboring community. On-site programs range from childcare, early childhood education centers, after-school clubs and programs, and youth recreation activities, such as sports teams, to housing assistance, case management, parenting workshops, career and job vocational training, support groups, and substance abuse assistance, and family engagement and recreation events for the whole family.   ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  Develop lesson plans and lead educational and recreational activities that engage a range of ages and support social-emotional learning.

  Assist students with homework and school projects.

  Collaborate with program staff in the planning of enrichment activities and trips.

  Work with program staff to update bulletin boards in the classroom and main hallway.

  Support recruitment and enrollment activities, including outreach to the surrounding community.

  Maintain flexibility and openness to classroom scheduling adjustments.

  Maintain a safe, clean, bright, and active classroom environment.

  Assist with daily health screenings and ensure all COVID-19 policies and procedures are followed.

  Participate in staff meetings, conferences, and training.

  Assist in book fairs, holiday parties, activities, plays, etc.

  Other duties as assigned.

  QUALIFICATIONS

  High school diploma or equivalent, Associate/Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field preferred

  At least two years of experience working in an afterschool program for children ages 5-16.

  Kind, creative, flexible, and caring personality that works well with children and as part of the afterschool program team.

  Must be willing to consent to a multi-stage background investigation.

  Sensitivity and awareness while working with families experiencing homelessness.

  Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
