Job Summary
Provides tactical management control of, and responsibility for the Department of Writing & Rhetoric Studies including the functions of planning, directing, staffing, budgeting and making day-to-day business operating decisions.

Responsibilities
Initiates functional, cost-effective business, or service systems, which accomplish department objectives.Maintains an effective accounting system to support the necessary daily operation of the department.Exercises prudent financial control according to correct policy and procedures to ensure the department operates within budget and other constraints.Prepares and administers yearly department budgets.Reviews change in University policy, federal regulations and contractual requirements and coordinates their implementation.Provides effective supervision over subordinate staff.Provides advice to faculty and staff on policy and procedure questions.Coordinates hiring and scheduling of academic staff for department course offerings each semester.Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.
Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.
