About Accounting Assistant

  Duration: 5+ Months contractWork Schedule: (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday or alternate schedule)Job Description:Assistance is needed to ensure daily duties related to State Surplus MI Bid transactions are recorded and properly accounted for due to vacancy/departure of unit staff.Request will ensure accurate and complete financial reporting for MI Bid sales proceeds, along with distribution of proceeds and monthly reporting of sales tax collections.Provide assistance as needed on the following tasks: assisting DTMB's Financial Services MB Internal Service Funds Unit in preparing, analyzing, verifying, and reviewing daily Surplus MiBid transactions and related documentation and financial reports.Updating tracking spreadsheets for Surplus MI Bid transactions.Assisting Bulk Gas accountant with scanning and logging monthly gas invoices.Preparing and recording journal entries into the State's SIGMA Financial system.Creating ACH payment transactions.Trouble shooting and researching data to resolve cash deposit and other accounting discrepancies and errors.Reconciling and updating schedules for management review. Perform various other accounting financial and analytical duties and tasks.Skills Required:Ability to collect and organize accounting data, interpret its significance, and prepare accurate financial reports.Ability to conduct analysis with a high level of independent judgement.Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, methods, practices, and terminology.The ability to solve difficult and complex accounting and related financial problems.Ability to maintain records and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work. Ability to communicate effectively with others.Ability to work with others and be comfortable with a team approach to management. Ability to utilize Microsoft Excel &Word with at least an intermediate level of experience. Ability to utilize other software applications/tools to extract and process financial data.
