  Job Summary:

   

  The Access Coordinator is responsible for coordinating reasonable accommodation and accessibility plans for students affiliated with the Miller Center for Student Disability Services (MCSDS).

   

  Duties/Physical Demands:

  Coordinates accommodations and services for students with disabilities ensuring equal access within the academic and campus life setting.Performs case management activities including student/faculty consultations, disability documentation review, accommodation eligibility determination, reasonable accommodation planning and ongoing student/faculty support.Provides advocacy and support for students with disabilities' access and inclusion.Utilizes Accessible Information Management (AIM) case management database for recordkeeping in accordance with current office procedures and protocols.Consults and collaborates with campus partners (e.g. faculty, accessible technology, housing and dining) to coordinate reasonable accommodation and access plans.Assists with the development and implementation of departmental programming and training initiatives.Contributes to the development and implementation of departmental assessment and evaluation plans to determine service effectiveness.Maintains comprehensive knowledge of university services and assists students with connecting to various support resources (e.g. tutoring, mental health counseling, international student support).Participates in university and Division of Student Life initiatives and committees effectively with the core values of collegiality, inclusion and service.All other duties as assigned, and not limited to, responding to emails, calls, and other unexpected and unassigned internal and external requests for information, explanation, etc.

   

  Minimum Qualifications:

  Master's Degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Social Work, Vocational Rehabilitation, Special Education or closely related area conferred by the first day of employment.

   

  Desired Qualifications:

  At least one year of higher education experience.Prior experience working with students with disabilities.Experience reviewing and interpreting verifying disability documentation (e.g. psychological assessments, special education records) for the purpose of informing access coordination.Knowledge of accessible technology law and guidelines including Section 508 and World Wide Web Consortium Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).Ability to assess and recommend modern assistive technologies to new users.Ability to engage in complex problem solving with multiple university systems and stakeholders including faculty, staff, students, parents and community members.

   

  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  Knowledge of disability laws including the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended (ADAA) and Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act.Understanding of disability identity, culture and social construction.Understanding of modern and emerging assistive technologies commonly used by people with disabilities.Proven record of excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, professional presentations and within digital platforms including social media.Ability to work effectively in both independent and collaborative team environments.Ability to engage with diverse individuals in a culturally conscious manner.
