About SFGATE Stanford Rebele Summer Intern 2024

  SFGATE Stanford Rebele Summer Intern

  Your Impact:

We're looking for a budding digital journalist to join us at SFGATE, the second-largest media site in California.

This opportunity, exclusively open to Stanford students through the university's Rebele Journalism Internship program, will immerse the right candidate in the fast-paced world of digital media. You will learn the basics of day-to-day operations for a website with 1 million visits per day and work closely with our editors to assist with various content-related tasks in all sections of the site (see below). You will have the opportunity to learn content ideation and write stories, contributing to the daily news cycle, getting valuable real-world clips, and being part of daily audience-building conversations. Additional responsibilities will be tailored to the candidate's skillset, but could include background research, article packaging, social media responsibilities, taking photos in the field or administrative duties as assigned. This is a 12-week, full time internship from June to August 2024.

  Why SFGATE?

Launched in 1994, SFGATE.com was one of the first large-market media sites in the world and served as the exclusive digital home of the San Francisco Chronicle for 19 years. In 2019, the Chronicle (which can now be found online at the paywalled site sfchronicle.com) and SFGATE officially became two separately run entities with their own editorial staffs and independent newsrooms.

Today, SFGATE is a digital-only publication that reaches more than 28 million readers every month and tells the stories of the people, places and ideas that make San Francisco, and the Bay Area at large, the weird and wonderful place that it is. We help readers navigate their day, whether we're keeping them updated on breaking news, guiding them to interesting local experiences or sharing a part of the Bay they haven't seen before.

The site is home to seven verticals: Culture, offering a unique mix of the entertainment news you actually need, and the underground stories from hidden corners of the Bay Area you want; Local, the premier destination for everything that life in San Francisco encompasses (from wildly expensive real estate to what it's like to live above a raucous bar); Sports, covering the intersection of sports and culture; Travel, covering everything from travel news and hacks to under-the-radar day trips; Politics, where we keep you up to speed on all local, state and national politics that have implications in the Bay Area; Food, where we tell you the backstory of the people in the kitchen; and News; plus, SFGATE has satellite editors covering Lake Tahoe, California Parks, the Central Coast, Los Angeles, Hawaii and Disneyland.

  Requirements:

Must be a currently enrolled Stanford student Passion for journalism and the internet, including keeping a pulse on what's trending. Knowledge of the Bay Area Ability to quickly grasp new concepts Strong attention to detail Familiarity with online publications Experience at a school newspaper/magazine or similar publication Enthusiasm and an eagerness to learn Familiarity with social media, particularly Twitter, Instagram and RedditBonus points for:

Video editing experience Social media experience for a brand or publication Previous photography workAbout SFGate:

SFGate provides a 360-degree view of San Francisco, wildly reflective of right now. Provocative, energetic and unapologetic, the Gate is in constant conversation with the world's most eclectic city.
