About the role
Plenty is looking for a Senior Technical Project Manager to join our R&D Engineering team. The R&D Engineering team designs and scales the technology used in our state of the art, indoor vertical farms. In this role, you will oversee Plenty Engineering projects from concept through launch, including conceptualization, design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and turnover to customers. You will focus on the integration of Plenty’s farm equipment installation and commissioning and document the activities for deployment with the rest of our farms. These comprise many of the core Plenty strategic components in the farm
What you’ll do Lead a cross-functional team comprised of Engineering, Supply Chain, Construction Management, and others to integrate several farm areas Provide leadership in consolidating hardware integration requirements for automated machine designs and ensuring successful deployment in the farm Build integrated commissioning and qualification schedules, taking input from other Engineering teams, Deployment, Farm Operations, and Plant Science Develop a technology development roadmap for each product Manage product development, schedule, and cost for new equipment designs being introduced into our farms. Collaborate with the rest of the Engineering PM team to develop the Engineering team’s product development and validation processes Manage the relationship with external design firms, serving as the interface between Plenty technical teams and external firms; develop and manage scope of work Participate in Request for Proposal (RFP) processes, including Request for Quotation (RFQ) generation, proposal review, qualifications assessment, ranking and recommendation of final selection Contribute to overall design of Farm Projects and support capital project progression through stage gate milestones Ensure cross functional teams within Plenty (e.g., Plant Science, Food/Worker Safety, Farm Architecture, Engineering, Deployment, and Sourcing) are executing responsibilities related to design and design review to progress the Design Program through stage gates Lead workshops to gather Plenty design requirements, evaluate design tradeoffs, align on design decisions, conduct risk assessments and review external design firms work products Coordinate and host design reviews to ensure alignment of farm designs with key stakeholders (e.g. Deployment, Operations) and SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) (e.g. Engineering, Food/Worker Safety) Provide Plenty leadership with capital project report out updates on project scope, schedule, forecasted costs Contribute to the development of an integrated program schedule spanning campus planning, design, product management, procurement, pre-construction, construction and commissioning Support and oversee completion of outstanding decisions and tasks for project change management Update and maintain project risk logs, oversee completion of planned mitigation activities and escalate key risks to leadership Collaborate with Plenty Product Management to integrate subsystem requirements and make recommendations for Plenty subsystem products that meet overall farm design requirements
What you'll bring to the table BS in an Engineering discipline, preferably Electrical, Mechanical, and/or similar acquired skills from experience in an Engineering field 6+ years managing electrical/controls engineering projects, in manufacturing or industrial automation, ideally in a food production (hygienic design) environment Experience leading design and manufacturing validation activities (DFMEA, DV/PV testing, PPAP etc.) Appreciation for the art of managing evolving project requirements in a fast-paced environment Experience using a standard product development process. Experience with Scrum a plus Experience managing vendors and third party designers Highly collaborative mindset and strong communication skills Type of role Full-Time / Hybrid
