SMX is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to report directly to the Director, Projects Revenue Accounting. The successful candidate will be a hands-on, independent problem solver that will be responsible for the project lifecycle in Deltek Costpoint and revenue recognition. This role will be a key support to the accounting team to ensure the project setup is timely, captured in accordance with contract specifications, and aligned with the Company’s policies.

Responsibilities

Perform setup and maintenance of contracts in compliance with contractual terms, conditions, and requirements in our Costpoint accounting system

Support multiple program tasks simultaneously while prioritizing efforts with strict timelines to ensure service levels are met

Responsible for tracking and reporting of project costs, profitability, and proper revenue recognition on projects

Reconcile contract modifications against Costpoint records

Work collaboratively with the Business Unit Finance Leads, Program Managers, Contracts, and the accounting team to ensure project setup configurations meet the billing, revenue recognition and reporting requirements and aligned with the Company’s policy to work and solve set-up challenges

Support external and internal audit teams with gathering documents

Coordinate project kick-off calls with Finance, Contracts Administrator and the Program Manager(s) and accounting team to ensure alignment with the project structure

Serve as a liaison between the stakeholders to address questions, investigate project variances and resolve any issues that may arise

Support the staff with peer reviewing setup requests

Required Skills and Experience

Clearance Required: None. US Citizenship required for work on DoD contracts

Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Strong knowledge of GAAP, FAR and compliance within highly regulated environments

Experience working with DCAA and DCMA including audit support

Familiarity with Cognos

Expert Excel skills

Ability to collaborate in a team environment with a focus on high professional standards strong follow-up, and successful project execution.

Ability to troubleshoot complex Costpoint issues (Changing revenue formulas, retroactive revenue)

4+ years of experience with governmental contracting in project accounting and revenue recognition

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment prioritizing multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities

Current experience in revenue recognition methodologies across all contract types; CPFF, CPAF, TM, FFP, Commercial, et al.

Costpoint 8.1 experience in Projects Module for project setup
