Van Andel Institute{target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"} is hiring a full-time Regulatory Programs Specialist to join its growing Office of Research Protections. Reporting to VAI's Manager of Regulatory Programs, you will be responsible for supporting and helping to coordinate oversight of the Institute's research and its regulatory committees. Your work will span the continuum of research compliance areas (e.g., animal care and use, human research protection, export controls, conflict of interest, etc.). This is a highly customer service-oriented position working closely with researchers.
The mission of the Office of Research Protections is to help VAI faculty, staff and trainees achieve their research objectives while maintaining a robust and risk-informed culture of compliance, where every aspect of the VAI research enterprise conforms to the highest levels of ethics and integrity and follows all relevant rules, regulations, and policies.
Primary Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with the requirements of regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies, and VAI policies and procedures.Guide investigators and research staff to facilitate the ethical and compliant conduct of research by assisting with questions and requirements.Interpret applicable federal and state regulations when analyzing research submissions to identify research requirements and/or conduct an in-depth pre-review.Serve as regulatory expert for the support of Institute research oversight, and make recommendations regarding the compliance of VAI's oversight and regulatory committees.Facilitate research compliance board meetings (e.g., IACUC, IRB, IBC, etc.); prepare agendas, record minutes, document votes, etc.Maintain documentation in accordance with institutional and regulatory guidelines (e.g., OHRP, OLAW, etc.).Assist in responding to alleged violations of regulations, policies, or procedures.Participate in compliance audits, post-approval monitoring, accreditation applications, government inspections, quality assurance initiatives, site visits and reports, and other special projects as needed.Assist in the development and maintenance of Institute policies and procedures, educational/training materials, associated forms, etc.Maintain currency in research compliance by participating in internal and external educational events and/or compliance meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:
Post-secondary coursework in the biological sciences or 2 years of experience in research compliance or related fieldBachelor's degree preferredStrong written and verbal communication skillsDetail orientation.Current knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and policies pertaining to the conduct of at least one area of research compliance (e.g., animal care and use, human research protection, etc.).
Schedule:
This is an on-site position allowing for flexibility to work remotely 2 days per week.
