A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A JOURNEYMAN PLUMBER
As a seasonal Journeyman Plumber, you ensure that our remote researchstation remains safe and comfortable for the people living and working here.You maintain and repair existing indoor and outdoor plumbing systems andinfrastructure as well as install a variety of fixtures and equipment.Meticulously, you install and repair valves and other control devices forappliances such as dishwashers, sinks, pumps, and toilets. You alsoinstall and maintain insulated piping for glycol and sewer transport. Asneeded, you deftly use various power and hand tools to get the job done. Youmaintain thorough and accurate documentation of all your work, making noteof hours worked, materials used, and tasks performed.
Working in Alaska, you can expect weather conditions to be a little extremesometimes. However, you're up for the task and adapt your methodsaccordingly. This job can be challenging at times, but it doesn't beat thesatisfaction you feel from helping others and successfully overcomingobstacles. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A JOURNEYMAN PLUMBER
Current Journeyman or Master Plumber license4+ years of diversified plumbing experienceExperience working with a variety of pipe materials and fittings such ascopper, PEX, galvanized steel, black iron, glass-fiber reinforcedepoxy (GRE), and high-density polyethylene (HDPE)Knowledge about the Uniform Plumbing CodeValid driver's license and ability to drive snowmobiles or other polarvehiclesHigh school diploma or equivalentBackflow Prevention Assembly Tester or Repairer certification would bepreferred. Experience with hydronic piping systems would be a plus. Experienceworking in commercial or industrial facilities, as well as remote, cold,or polar environments, would be a bonus.

WORK SCHEDULE FOR A JOURNEYMAN PLUMB R
This seasonal position works a varied schedule depending on location,weather, and work requirements. Typically, you can expect to work 50 hoursper week, Monday - Saturday. When necessary, you might need to respond toemergencies outside of working hours. Deployments vary in length and usuallyoccur between April through September.
