  Description of Work Unit

  The Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences ( ERHS ) houses academic, research and clinical programs that address the promotion of human and animal health. The mission of the department is to deliver excellent education in environmental and radiological health to prepare students to contribute to society; to conduct state of the art research in human and animal health focusing on environmental exposures and clinical applications; and to promote excellence in outreach and service to the citizens of Colorado, the United States, and globally through information transfer, research, continuing education and technical assistance. ERHS is unique in its multifactorial approach to disease that involves chemical, physical, and biological factors. ERHS provides undergraduate and graduate programs leading to BS, MS and PhD degrees.

  The Department has a strong tradition in occupational and environmental health, epidemiology, occupational ergonomics and safety, industrial hygiene, toxicology and health physics. Research and collaboration opportunities exist throughout the Department, the University, and at the Center for Work, Health & the Environment at the Colorado School of Public Health.

  Position Summary

  Colorado State University ( CSU ) is searching for a faculty member to lead the nationally recognized program in Occupational Ergonomics and Safety ( OES ). The OES Program is part of the NIOSH funded Mountains and Plains Education and Research Center with programs also in Industrial Hygiene, Health Physics, Occupational Health Psychology, and Occupational Medicine. There are also opportunities for collaboration with faculty in the Epidemiology, Design and Merchandising, Health and Exercise Science, Occupational Health Psychology, and Environmental Public Health programs as well as the Colorado School of Public Health. Other opportunities with this position include involvement with the NIOSH funded High Plains Intermountain Center for Agriculture Health and Safety ( HICAHS ) at CSU . Candidates whose research involves occupational ergonomics and human factors, industrial process and product design, industrial engineering, system safety engineering, as well as other occupational health and safety topics are encouraged to apply.

  Responsibilities include teaching, research and service. Teach and mentor students in our graduate and undergraduate programs in occupational and environmental health with a focus in occupational ergonomics and safety issues. Provide curricular guidance to students, supervise student research, and coordinate with other faculty in successful completion of student theses, dissertations, and research publications. Develop and conduct an independently funded research program in your area of expertise. Serve on committees within and external to the University.

  Required Job Qualifications

  For Assistant Professor Consideration:

  PhD or equivalent in Occupational Health, Occupational Ergonomics, System Safety Engineering, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

  Eligibility to sit for the Certified Professional Ergonomist examination or the Certified Safety Professional examination (or equivalent certification outside of the U.S.) within 3 years of hire date

  A minimum 3 year history of successful research as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and internal or external funding

  Teaching experience with an emphasis in occupational ergonomics or occupational safety and health

  Service experience with professional organizations involved in occupational ergonomics or safety

  For Associate Professor Consideration:

  PhD or equivalent in Occupational Health, Occupational Ergonomics, System Safety Engineering, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

  Designation as a Certified Professional Ergonomist or Certified Safety Professional or equivalent outside of the U.S.

  Currently at the rank of Associate Professor or a minimum of 6 years of experience in teaching in occupational ergonomics and safety

  A minimum 6-year history of external research funding as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and external funding

  Experience in assisting or directing training programs

  Service experience (national)with professional organizations involved in occupational ergonomics or occupational safety

  For Full Professor Consideration:

  PhD or equivalent in Occupational Health, Occupational Ergonomics, System Safety Engineering, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

  Designation as a Certified Professional Ergonomist or a Certified Safety Professional or equivalent outside of the U.S.

  Currently at the rank of Full Professor or a minimum of 12 years of experience in teaching in occupational ergonomics and safety

  A minimum 12-year history of external research funding as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and external funding

  Experience directing training programs

  Service experience (national and international) with professional organizations involved in occupational ergonomics or occupational safety

  Preferred Job Qualifications

  For all ranks:

  Interdisciplinary collaboration in training or research centers

  Additional board certification in occupational safety or other occupational health specializations (e.g. industrial hygiene Total Worker Health, etc.)
