Summary This position is located with Bonneville Power Administration, in the Network Administration (JNDN), Infrastructure Services (JND), Enterprise Technology Operations Services (JN), Information Technology (J). A successful candidate in the IT Specialist (Network) position will serve as an IT Specialist performing duties associated with the Network Services, Security and Policy and Planning specialty areas. Responsibilities As an IT Specialist (Network), you will: Serve as an Information Technology Specialist (Network) for the BPA Enterprise Network, Data Centers, Wide Area Network (WAN) and all regional customers and networks. Manages all aspects of Cisco routers and switches; e.g., Cisco IOS-XE and NX-OS. Performs the design, testing, configuration, implementation, troubleshooting and management of local and large-scale data networks. Identify the need to upgrade or enhance network components capabilities in response to network problems and deficiencies; e.g., degradation of service. This position has an emphasis on cable and interconnecting hardware. Manages and troubleshoots a variety of wiring interconnections of network devices to include copper, fiber and connection modules. Authors Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Visio diagrams, and other technical related documentation pertaining to all aspects of network engineering. Develops contingency plans to ensure continuous availability and accessibility of network resources in the event of emergencies. Maintains continual vigilance against threats to network confidentiality, integrity and availability. Analyze network workload and develops network requirements for planning purposes. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: 1) Evaluating the design, testing, configuration, implementation, troubleshooting and management of local and large-scale data networks; 2) providing advice and guidance on a wide range and variety of complex IT issues; and 3) preparing management briefings on assigned programs and projects. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
