Title: Data Manager - STI$25.68 - $34.00 / Posted Thru: 1/26/24
Work Location: Remote/Virtual - Must Live in Michigan
Purpose: The STI Data Manager position will support the Bureau of HIV and STI Programs at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. The selected candidate will work to maintain quality reporting and quality assurance of sexually transmitted infection (STI) data, including timely processing and routing investigations in the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS). The position is based in Lansing but will include other travel as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:Review and expedite semi-automated merging of new laboratory results with existing cases and investigations in the MDSS.Assist with contacting reporting laboratories for missing lab tests, incorrect results, incomplete information, and other information as needed.Back up for the initial QA review of new syphilis investigations in the MDSS and assign to field staff for timely evaluation of treatment and partner services.Back up for case assignments and STI data entry.Conduct regularly scheduled STI data cleaning activities.Monitor for timely entry of paper lab reports and completion of STI cases in the MDSS.Identify and merge duplicate records in the MDSS.Identify and correct duplicate case reporting of STI in the MDSS.Regularly scheduled communication with Local Health Department (LHD) staff regarding data completeness measures and duplicate cases in the MDSS.Conduct group meetings.Develop methods to carry out assigned grant activities.Participate in HIV/STI unit, section, and bureau staff meetings.Assist STI programs and external colleagues with data and technical assistance (TA) requests for the MDSS.Maintain proficiency with Section, CDC, and HIPAA confidentiality and security guidelines and training.Always represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI.Other duties as assigned by manager.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree. Background in Health, Sciences, or Information Technology preferred.
Experience: Minimum one year of work experience with large datasets, minimum one year work experience with MDSS
Important Skills and Characteristics:Detail oriented with excellent oral and written communications.Able to work well in team situations.Must be self-motivated, able to complete work in a timely manner, and handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision.Critical thinking skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel), email, and internet browser software are required. Experience with SAS and ability to write and maintain novel code.Experience working with STI data and MDSS preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements: This position will work remotely. Involves viewing a CRT or VDT screen 90% of the time. Very occasional travel to the office located in Lansing and/or Detroit may be required. Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or work hybrid must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview. May require valid vehicle operator's license where needed to perform duties of the position.
