This division develops positioning, control and automation products for earthmoving and paving machines in the construction and mining industries, using technologies such as GNSS, optical total stations, lasers, and sonics. CTCT currently has a job opening for a Quality Manager within the CTCT Quality team. The CTCT Quality team works in a dynamic global environment that supports a hybrid work schedule and flexible work hours.
This position will have direct accountability for the following three areas of Product Quality; Product Support, Current Product Improvement (CPI), and the Failure Analysis lab. This role will provide direct managerial support for employees working in these areas,as well as, be a champion for the voice of customer and business that is realized from these critical value streams.
The Quality Manager will help to set and drive the vision for these functional areas in support of the CTCT Quality Management System. The position will also ensure the three areas of accountability are working seamlessly together to support the goals and desired outcomes of our business. One key element of this work will be to ensure that reactive Quality actions are used to identify and drive Proactive quality efforts.
Interpersonal, leadership, and strong communication skills are required. Significant challenges of this position include mentoring subordinates who work with people on cross-functional teams with diverse technical and cultural backgrounds: enhancing creativity; facilitating cooperation; clearly communicating requirements; translating both verbal and non-verbal information from customers, management, and team members.
The incumbent should have the ability to draw upon foundational product development skills such as conceptual design, development of product and processes, data analysis/extraction, failure resolution and prevention, requirements management, and testing, as well as, skill in technical project management.
Key Responsibilities: Provide vision, leadership, drive change, and be an advocate for the Voice of Customer and Voice of Business in areas of accountability. Champion rigorous Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA). Work across accountabilities to identify and execute Product Quality and Product development process improvements utilizing LEAN six-sigma methodologies and tools. Serve as the representative/interface between CTCT and CAT on CPI, Product Support, and Failure Analysis Lab activities. Accountable for both internal and external communications from CTCT to OEM customers, including info notes, failure analysis reports, CPI project summaries, etc ... Product SupportManage the Tier III CTCT product support team, consisting of a manager and product support engineers in numerous global locations. Set product support metrics and provide guidance on process rigor and support case resolution when appropriate.Ensure support cases are being handled appropriately and within required time-frames to minimize customer down time. Interface with lower support Tier management to ensure all support Tiers are working seamlessly together. Report out on support cases, trends, and conclusions to drive improvement projects, new product requirements, and to improve product development processes. Current Product Improvement (CPI)Sponsors and supports CPI Projects through 6 sigma black belt resources to execute process and product improvements. These projects include a variety of CTCT SW products such as Earthworks, 3D CAT Grade, and Terrain for Grading and Loading products, as well as HW products such as IMUs, Displays, GNSS receivers, and all other hardware, required for a complete system installation.Work with all areas of CTCT including Hardware Engineering, Software Development, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Operations, as well as Trimble Inc. Contract Manufacturing and suppliers to resolve quality issues. CPI projects include field failures, factory returns, dealer out of box failures, and software bugs. Aid in the setting of project priority and working with CTCT wide teams to ensure resources are available to work issues. Failure Analysis Lab Manage CTCT Failure Analysis Lab personnel in Dayton, OH. Responsible for the flow of material through the lab, failure analysis processes, and resulting Failure Analysis reporting that supports both the CPI and Product support teams.Ensure capacity within the Lab to support the needs of CTCT and its customers who request analyses to be performed. Collaborate with the CTCT engineering lab on resources and physical assets when necessary. Management of salaried employees including training, motivation, mentoring, and development. Responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluations.This will include the management of the Failure Analysis lab personnel and processes for which failed hardware components are returned for failure analysis and root cause determination.Required Qualifications / Skills:Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field or sufficient work experience plus strong knowledge of Hardware, Software and System product development. Prior experience as a people manager. 10+ years of job-related experience is required in numerous disciplines related to Product Development, Quality, & Product Support. Top candidates will have prior experience in Product support and Grade Control Product Testing. Hands-on roles working with customer issues is highly desirable. Skilled in problem identification and problem resolution with up to date understanding and hands-on experience with industry best practices and tools. Strong project management and team leadership skills with exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with a global team. Skilled in failure analysis and root cause determination is desired.American Society for Quality (ASQ) or global equivalent certification as a Manager of Quality (CMQ), Quality Engineer (CQE), Quality Auditor (CQA), Mechanical Inspector (CMI), or Reliability Engineer (CRE) is a plus.
