Medical Center Development (MCD) , in partnership with the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health, supports Stanford Medicine with highly trained and experienced fundraising professionals and partner teams and is committed to a donor-centric approach to development. Its top-ranking team continues to build upon the generous support of its donor community and has newly defined philanthropic priorities that align with the strategic vision of Stanford University, which is in the early stages of its next major fundraising effort. Every member of the MCD staff and the broader Office of Development staff plays a role in providing the university’s donors with the service and attention that ensures an exceptionally positive and fulfilling philanthropic experience.   The professional in this position will be focused on raising philanthropic support for programmatic and capital initiatives at Stanford Health Care and will report to the Senior Director of Stanford Health Care, Medical Center Development. This position requires experience, sensitivity, diplomacy, and the ability to operate independently while representing Stanford Medicine. If you have the strategic skills necessary to balance prospect identification and solicitation, proposal development, and coordination of internal support activities while building donor centric, meaningful, relationships, this position might be for you. You will work with hospital leadership, volunteers, and other university constituencies to establish and maintain stellar relationships on behalf of Stanford Medicine.

  JOB PURPOSE:

  The position will directly manage a portfolio of approximately 140 major gifts prospects capable of making a gift between $250,000 - $5,000,000. This role will focus on building the donor base and philanthropic revenue for key hospital and clinical care delivery priorities. The position partners with other “specialists” (fundraisers with strategic responsibility for a specific department or initiative, faculty management, and prospect portfolios) and “generalists” (fundraisers focused primarily on prospect portfolios) within MCD and other fundraisers across the university to cultivate potential donors for Stanford Medicine, Stanford Health Care, and Stanford University.

  In this role, you will:

  Support philanthropic goals, objectives, and strategies for Stanford Health Care.

  Work with internal partners and SHC to develop a strategic fundraising plan for MCD efforts.

  Grow and manage a portfolio of approximately 140 prospects and donors, to cultivate, solicit, and steward their support. Track on engagement strategies, solicitations, and progress.

  Take responsibility for a wide range of fundraising activities, including maintaining an active level of contacts, identifying new prospective donors and volunteers, providing stewardship, and coordinating volunteer fundraising efforts, as needed.

  Stay informed on current initiatives and activities at Stanford Medicine.

  Build and manage relationships with MCD colleagues, department leadership, and clinical and administrative staff, to continuously grow the prospect pipeline.

  Prepare SHC leadership for donor meetings, responding to donor requests for information and written proposals, and engaging with volunteers to assist with cultivation/solicitation where appropriate.

  Design and manage appeals (e.g., direct mail, email, video, phone, and other channels) to target key populations to maximize fundraising potential.

  Play a leadership role in developing donor cultivation events at the hospital and clinics to highlight timely initiatives and deepen engagement with new and existing donors.

  Establish ongoing relationships with individual alumni through personal visits, phone calls, and meaningful contacts.

  Prioritize prospects, prepare background information, make volunteer assignments as appropriate, and follow up with volunteers to ensure completion of assigned solicitations.

  Work closely with other colleagues in development to align program goals with the overall giving goals of the university's development organization.

  To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

  Demonstrated effectiveness in prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation.

  Demonstrated experience mentoring and working with volunteers, faculty, and staff.

  Superior written and oral communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to articulate a compelling case for philanthropic support programs.

  Ability to translate complex concepts into compelling development proposals.

  PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, sit, and use a telephone, stand/walk.

  Occasionally light/fine grasping, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, writing by hand.

  WORKING CONDITIONS:

  May require working flexible hours, including nights and weekends. Regular travel may be required.WORK STANDARDS:

  When conducting university business, must comply with the California Vehicle Code and Stanford University driving requirements.

  The expected pay range for this position is $130,000 to $146,000 per annum.

  Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
