About Asphalt Plant Trainee

  Assist in the daily quality control operations of the hot mix asphalt (HMA) operations to ensure the quality of the materials produced meets specifications.  Develop a thorough knowledge of applicable test procedures and material specifications. This is an hourly, non-exempt position that will work with direct supervision.

  Essential Functions:  * Daily assist Bituminous Plant Technician in obtaining representative samples of materials used in the production of HMA. * Become familiar with the Quality Control Plan to ensure compliance. * Daily discuss test results and production processes with the Bituminous Technician in-charge on site.* Develop a thorough knowledge of applicable test procedures and material specifications.* Learn how to address material that does not meet specification.* Exercise proper care and maintenance of all company equipment.* Occasionally operate vehicle on company business.* Frequently work more than 40 hours per week and non-traditional hours including night shift, Saturdays and occasionally Sundays.* Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction. 

  Knowledge of:* Basic Mathematics.* Hot Mix Asphalt plant operations.

  Ability to:* Read and interpret specifications, test methods and technical manuals.* Learn all daily required test procedures.* Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.* Work alone or with others in a team.* Maintain neat, legible, and accurate documentation.* Become proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software products.* Learn and follow GOH Company policies and procedures.* Attend and pass PennDOT's Bituminous Plant Technician Certification course within one year as a trainee.

  Qualifications:* Must have a valid driver's license for state in which you reside with acceptable driving record per company minimum standards for drivers.

  Education:* Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  Experience:* Minimum of 6 months experience at a hot mix asphalt production facility, or related experience preferred.

  Physical Requirements:* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds from ground level to work-bench height.* Ability to perform physical labor in varying weather and terrain, as well as in a lab environment and tolerate limited exposure to heat and dust.* Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment.* Ability to climb stairs and ladders.* Ability to shovel.* Ability to sit or be on your feet for extended periods of time.
