  Welcome to the Surreal team in Reality Labs Research! Our team is dedicated to advancing the state-of-the-art in computer vision, machine perception, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. We are a diverse group of researchers, engineers, and technologists who work together to develop cutting-edge technology that pushes the boundaries of what is possible.One of our flagship projects is the Aria device, which is a wearable device that enables us to collect data about the world around us. With Aria, we can gather information about the environment, people, and objects, and use this data to develop new algorithms and models for machine perception and advance artificial intelligence research.   Required Skills:

  Applied Research Scientist, AI for Project Aria (PhD) Responsibilities:

  Develop novel algorithms and models for 3D machine perception in real-world environments.

  Design and implement experiments to evaluate the performance of 3D ML systems on large-scale datasets.

  Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware and software engineers, to integrate novel research into the Aria platform.

  Stay up-to-date with the latest research in 3D computer vision and machine learning, and apply this knowledge to improve the performance of the Aria platform.

  Communicate research findings through publications, presentations, and other channels.

  Minimum Qualifications:

  Minimum Qualifications:

  Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.

  Experience in Python and/or C++.

  Experience with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras.

  Hands-on experience implementing 3D computer vision algorithms as well as end-to-end training of ML models from data collection and design to evaluation.

  Experience with large-scale dataset management and processing.

  Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in the field of Computer Science, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Computational Imaging, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.

  Research experience in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Large Language Model, Multi-Modal Machine Perception.

  Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

  Knowledge and hands-on experience working with 3D and projective geometry, in addition to image-space CV.

  Track record of published research in the fields of Object Tracking/Detection/Segmentation or 3D semantic scene understanding.

  Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as publications at leading workshops, journals or conferences such as SIGGRAPH, CVPR, NeurIPS, ECCV, ICCV, ISMAR, ICML, or similar.

  Demonstrated research and software engineering experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub).

  Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, tradeoffs, and diverse points of view to determine a path forward.

  Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.

  Public Compensation:

  $117,000/year to $173,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
