QUALIFICATIONS1. Must have and maintain a valid CDL with SP endorsement.2. The mechanic shall have the knowledge, ability and skills to perform the job objective. This includesthe ability and experience in all facets of mechanics as it pertains to gasoline and diesel engine repair ofschool busses and other vehicles in the Waterloo School fleet.3. Must be at least 21 years of age and be a high school graduate or equivalent. Advanced training ispreferred.4. Must be in good health; maintain high morals and exemplary attendance record.GENERAL DESCRIPTION-OBJECTIVE1. Work under the direction of and with the Head Mechanic.2. Maintain in proper working order all school vehicles.3. Perform repairs and develop and conduct preventative maintenance programs to provide a safe,reliable bus fleet.4. Complete all "School Bus Driver Maintenance Request" forms in an efficient, timely manner.Maintain a file on each bus which will contain maintenance request forms and all other relevantinformation on each vehicle, including operational and repair costs.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. Repair all vehicles in compliance with State of Ohio and Ohio State Patrol regulations, includingmotor overhaul, body repairs, and unit replacement to maintain a safe fleet. This includes, but is notlimited to, brake adjustments and/or replacement, lighting, checking of tire wear, and any other safetyrequirements to insure maximum performance of our fleet.2. Diagnose causes of malfunctions and schedule and complete required repairs to minimize vehicle"down-time".3. Establish and implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance program.4. Establish and maintain an adequate parts inventory approved by management.5. Be familiar with and maintain Owner's and Driver's Service Manuals for each Board owned vehicle.6. Participate in continuing education relevant to job duties, responsibilities, and job objectives.7. Assist transportation department by answering phones when required.8. Establish and implement a summer maintenance program readying all vehicles for the annual OhioHigh Patrol inspection.9. Take in-service required by O.R.C.10. Complete daily, when practical, all driver write-ups to insure a safe bus fleet. Document andmaintain write-ups.11. Provide a safe, clean work area and supervise foot traffic throughout the area.12. Promote the Waterloo Schools through your appearance, attitude and actions.13. Secure purchase orders for all purchases prior to ascertaining.14. Assist in snow removal and salting of the campus.ADDITIONAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, WORKING CONDITIONS1. Be aware that occasional exposure to bloods, bodily fluids and tissue exists.2. Use of air tools, high pressure spray equipment, hydraulic tools and 110 and 220 electricity isrequired as well as all other equipment legally required to do the job.3. Operate a school bus as required from time to time, in accordance with the Waterloo board ofEducation Policy and Procedures and O.R.C.4. All other duties as required by head Mechanic, Supervisor of Transportation and/orSuperintendent/Designee.5. When needed during the school year, maintain coverage in the bus garage when Waterloo busses arein operation, including in the afternoon until the last bus returns to the bus compound.6. Order gasoline and diesel fuel as needed as well as all other automotive needs in accordance with theaforementioned procedure.This job description in no manner states or implies that these are the only duties and responsibilities tobe performed by the position incumbent.
