Job Description
Position Overview
As a Manager, Environmental Compliance & Strategy (Construction), youwill support the responsible construction of utility-scale wind andsolar energy facilities in the eastern US. You will leadenvironmental-related construction coordination and compliance for adedicated portfolio of large-scale wind and solar projects. To fulfillthese duties, you will collaborate with internal project teams such asdevelopment, engineering, and construction management; external teamslike environmental consultants, engineering and external legal counsel;and external stakeholders such as private landowners, state/federalresource agencies, and construction contractors. The ideal candidatewill play a crucial role in ensuring the projects adhere to all relevantpermit authorizations, laws, agency regulations, and industry standardsto ensure commitments are met during all phases of project construction.
Responsibilities
Manage environmental compliance throughout construction to ensurecommitments made to various stakeholders are upheld. Ability tocomprehend environmental audits performed by third-partyconsultants, project design, and offer insight to construction teamson how to remain in compliance.Provide subject matter expertise to Project Managers,Pre-construction, Engineering, and third-party consultantsthroughout construction to navigate construction challenges for bothwind and solar.Engage with federal, state, and local agencies, as needed, tosupport construction permits and activities.Manage consultants providing environmental survey support forconstruction, which includes reviewing proposals, scheduling surveytimelines, and ensuring survey methodologies follow wildlife agencyinput and satisfy permit conditions/project needs.Review technical reports provided by consultants. Reports typicallyinclude but are not limited to: habitat evaluations, desktopenvironmental screenings, threatened/endangered/sensitive speciessurveys, wetland delineations, avian and bat use surveys, andpost-construction monitoring studies.Prepare for and appear as the environmental subject matter expert incounty and state zoning and permitting hearings; provide thoroughand accurate testimony on behalf the project.Ability and desire to maintain a complete and organized projectrecord to demonstrate compliance with federal and state wildliferegulations.Direct project construction in collaboration with engineering andconstruction management to ensure compatibility with projectcommitments/requirements.Identify and communicate project needs, schedules, and risks acrossproject construction teams. Work collaboratively and efficientlywith internal teams and external parties (e.g., consultants) toexecute project work on schedule, and develop strategies to addressenvironmental-related issues.Build relationships and support federal and state regulatory agencyconsultation throughout construction.Participate in regional and national initiatives, symposia,conferences, and industry groups as needed to achieve Companyobjectives.Maintain comprehensive knowledge of environmental policy, regulationand compliance that affect permitting and impacts on projectconstruct on and compliance.Requirements
Bachelor\'s degree or higherExperience and expertise interpreting federal and stateenvironmental laws (ESA, NEPA, CWA), guidelines, and policies, anddeveloping project strategies for compliance with the same.5-7 years in renewable energy or 8+ years in a similar industry withexperience managing responsibilities similar to those listed above.2 years managing environmental compliance of large-scaleconstruction projects.Must be self-directed and detail oriented, with the ability anddesire to work effectively in a team environment.Able to act and adapt to a fast-paced business environment withcompeting deadlines, and quickly learn and implement internalprocesses.Strong attention to detail, assuring documents and communicationsare concise and accurate.Ability to navigate ArcGIS online and Google Earth platforms tointerpret environmental spatial data and identify potential projectrisks and siting opportunities for facilities.Must be willing to travel as needed (20%), depending on the needs ofthe project.Preferred
Advanced degree in biological science/natural resources/environmentalpolicy or environmental law degree
