This position is located at the Greenwood Welcome Center, in Greenwood , LA.
Full-time Travel Information Counselor 1-2 needed at the Greenwood Welcome Center. Duties and responsibilities include customer service, research and administrative tasks.
Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
This position does not require a Civil Service Test Score to qualify.
This position is in a Career Progression Group to a Tourism Information Counselor 2 . As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Tourism Information Counselor 1 or 2 based on the qualifications of the selected applicant. Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of experience in tourism information work, public relations, customer service, or teaching.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.
NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

To provide information to tourists and to perform incidental clerical and custodial functions.

Close from a Tourism Supervisor or higher level staff.

Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Office of Tourism - Welcome Centers statewide.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Tourism Information Counselor 2 by the degree of supervision received and the absence of experienced level duties.

Welcomes tourists and determines their travel interests and needs.
Provides information on localities, museums, parks, events, and other attractions to visit.
Assists travelers with hotel reservations and weather reports from the Internet.
Provides directions, shortest routes or scenic routes.
Distributes brochures and maps.
Answers questions from visitors, by phone and mail, regarding the state, its history and its culture.
Conducts research by reading industry publications, visiting travel websites and consulting with others to keep abreast of upcoming events and to broaden knowledge of the state.
Participates in educational study tours.
Keeps daily records or files; stocks brochure racks; orders supplies/brochures; performs other clerical duties.
Attains CPR certification and becomes re-certified annually.
