  JOB TITLE: Terminal Barging Manager

  LOCATION: Bethel and Dillingham, AK

  UIC, Bowhead Transport seeks a full-time, land-based Terminal Barging Manager to supervise two marine vessels (e.g., tugboats with barges) . The Terminal Barging Manager will be responsible for all terminal operations necessary to manage the required equipment & personnel for each location. Tasks will include but are not limited to receiving & loading cargo, operating equipment (e.g., forklifts & loaders), completing voyage manifests, and maintaining clear & consistent communications with internal and external stakeholders in accordance with Bowhead Transport Management’s direction.

  Responsibilities

  Terminal Barging Manager Essential Functions Include:

  Supervise two 2-person crews under the direct guidance of the Director of Operations.

  Maintain the delivery schedule created by the General Manager.

  Coordinate daily safety and status update meetings.

  Demonstrate the ability to follow the chain of command.

  Effectively manage time, scheduling tasks based on known requirements.

  Compile voyage manifests, dangerous cargo manifests, bills of lading, and other necessary reports as information becomes available.

  Maintain close correspondence with Port Directors in Bethel and Dillingham.

  Notify customers of freight delivery before the river barge arrives at the destination

  Communicate effectively through speaking & writing

  Under the direction and supervision of the Port Engineer, perform minor repairs and maintenance on terminal equipment

  Display proven safety consciousness, recognizing and reporting safety hazards

  Assist operators in loading and unloading barges in Bethel/Dillingham, using

  Organize freight in the Bethel/Dillingham yard and stage cargo for M/V and line-haul barges.

  Support the Cargo Operations Manager during the loading and unloading of line-haul barges docking in Bethel/Dillingham, as requested.

  Foster and maintain professional relationships with individuals in communities along the Kuskokwim & Nushagak River System.

  Seek new sales opportunities in the areas of operation when time allows.

  Direct customers to the pricing team when attempting to obtain a quote for a customer.

  Organize flights for the crew as needed.

  Ensure cleanliness in both hub locations.

  Operate heavy equipment as needed.

  Participate in other company operations in various locations throughout Alaska, as necessary.

  Demonstrate the ability to operate each vessel or serve as a deckhand/operator in case of an emergency, which will be considered an advantage.

  Licenses, Credentials, Requirements and Experience:

  1 year of experience operating cargo-delivering equipment.

  2 years of Large Hyster Forklift or Loader Operator experience on barges

  Forklift Certification (preferred).

  49CFT Hazardous Materials Training (preferred)

  Qualifications

  Physical & Environmental Demands: The work environment varies and includes, but is not limited to, docks, ports, bays, beaches, waterways, office space, equipment rooms, warehouse space, construction zones, and outdoor environments. Work hours may fluctuate outside of regular duty hours. While performing the duties of this job, the individual is:

  Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

  Repetitive neck, shoulder, wrist, and lower back movements.

  Static neck, shoulders, wrist, and lower back postures.

  Walking, sitting, standing, and climbing.

  Handling of cables, chains, or hooks.

  Particular attention is paid to other workers who may give hand signals to guide the object's movement through the workspace.

  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  Must be willing to work all shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed and required.

  Perform work in dusty environments and all temperature/weather conditions.

  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, vibration, and noise.

  Walking on slippery, uneven surfaces.

  Remote work sites with limited resources and infrastructure.
