The Family Resource Center (FRC) at Manny Cantor Center is a welcoming space where individuals and families can define and explore what “better” might look and feel like in their lives. The Social Work staff at the FRC work with Lower East Side community members, in their native language, whenever possible, to help make that “better” a reality. Social Workers are thought partners who offer resources, counseling and problem-solving support as community members work towards their goals. The FRC is a space where families and individuals will find hope, aid, and encouragement. All are welcome.
The FRC provides a range of services including legal, housing, employment, advocacy, citizenship, parenting, ESOL, and counseling resources and supports.
THE ROLE
The Family Resource Center (FRC) Social Worker (SW) will work to provide culturally sensitive case management to individuals and families. The position supports community members’ working to address short-term crises and to achieve longer-term sustainability and enrichment goals. Using a whole person perspective, the Social Worker will consider how each part of an individual’s life informs his or her functioning and impacts related supports and services. They FRC will utilize a relational focused model to build rapport and develop targeted strategies to help individuals and families stabilize and/or reach greater levels of success. Using an interdisciplinary approach, the position will work collaboratively across EA departments and with community partners to meet children and families’ needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Conduct routine intakes and assess clients’ needs.
Recommend appropriate intervention strategies.
Provide routine follow-up and supportive counseling as necessary.
Conduct safety assessments and provide crisis management support as needed.
Engage in reflective practice and work with supervisor to monitor and evaluate effectiveness of interventions.
Facilitate one-on-one sessions, groups, and workshops on topics of interest.
Work with the FRC team to promote service and speak on behalf of the FRC at agency and/or community events.
Connect families with Family Resource Center @MCC for comprehensive support around basic needs, legal, employment, housing, citizenship, counseling, crisis management services.
Communicate effectively with individuals, families, and colleagues, and respond to clients’ concerns promptly and effectively.
Make strategic referrals for clients and advocate for the type, frequency and intensity of services for clients
Monitor and facilitate the delivery of external resources and services.
Complete documentation in a timely manner. Maintain required records and documentation, including case notes for children and families.
Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
LMSW preferred, LCSW a plus.
Bilingual English/Mandarin or English/Spanish preferred
3 to 5 years’ experience providing case management support to individuals and families preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of community resources for individuals, children and families.
Familiarity with family systems work.
Ability to interact with families of diverse religious, cultural and social backgrounds required. Knowledge of risk factors experienced by families including homelessness, intimate partner violence, and substance abuse.
Familiarity with the Lower Manhattan community preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills along with strong written & verbal communication skills required.
Ability to multitask and handle challenging situations in a professional and courteous manner.
Excellent computer and follow-up skills are essential.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and operate in a deadline-driven environment.
Willingness to work as part of a team.
