Openings of this kind sometime occur for teaching evening and summer session, as well as day courses and courses offered through Independent and Distance Learning. The courses are primarily introductory or survey courses. Appointments may be full-time or part-time and may be limited to one semester The Department of Chicano and Latino Studies at the University of Minnesota invites applications for a part-time Teaching Specialist or Lecturer to begin on August 28, 2023 and end May 26, 2024. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in-person undergraduate courses. The courses are part of the department's curriculum and may include Latinos in the United States, a large lecture course assisted by a TA, to regular courses on Chicano/a/x History, Politics, Latino Social Movements, and community engaged learning. In addition, they will hold office hours to assist and advise students. Attendance in departmental meetings, academic and community outreach events hosted by the department is recommended but not required. Applicants who have not completed the Ph.D. will be appointed at the Teaching Specialist level; those with a Ph.D. will be appointed at the Lecturer level. Develop and teach courses Advise students regarding both specific coursework and broader academic or career goals Engage in research and publication, and/or artistic or scientific creation. Provide service through participation in governance of the department and/or the University Contribute to the development of the profession through participation in national and/or international associations, publications, and/or other related activities Continue personal growth within the profession, keep current with the field, and broaden knowledge and expertise Contribute to outreach activities that support the unit's mission. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: B.A. in Chicano Studies or related field Preferred Qualifications: Master's level or higher. College/University level teaching experiences is preferred.
